John Watton8.56.03pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 28th Sep 2007
Today saw the funeral of John Watton, who was the Lib Dem Councillor for Flitwick East. John tragically died 2 weeks ago. Speaking today, his fellow ward councillor Steve Mitchell said "John was a committed councillor. He was an extremely intelligent man with an analytical mind. He was able to get to the heart of an issue, and was determined to stand up for the disadvantaged and vulnerable. John campaigned for a number of causes; he campaigned to keep Steppingley Hospital open, against the building of Center Parcs, and in defence of Flitwick Moor. It was undoubtedly the victory that prevented development threatening Flitwick Moor which John was most proud of." John will be sadly missed by his daughter, family, fellow councillors and friends. Flitwick has lost a powerful advocate for local people.
