This evening, Lib Dem Deputy Group Leader Mark Chapman tabled a motion to Mid Beds District Council to ensure they have nothing to do with ID Cards. After an amendment, the motion was passed. Commenting on the success, Mark said " I am delighted that Mid Beds has stood up and said no to ID cards. Once this is ratified by the Executive, who individually voted in favour tonight at full council, the new Home Secretary Jacqui Smith will get a letter from the council making our opposition clear. Mid Beds has shown it will stand up for local people's civil liberties, and protect their personal information." As a result of tonight's vote, the council will not assist this government with it's ID cards unless required by law to do so.
