Shadow Home Secretary Nick Clegg

Responding to revelations that the Government are not keeping a record of how long terrorist suspects are being held, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Nick Clegg MP said:

"This admission makes it clear that when it comes to sacrificing traditional British liberties, the Government is more interested in grabbing short-term headlines than dealing with the problem.

"How dare John Reid and Gordon Brown set out demands to extend the period of detention before charge when they can't even be bothered to gather the most cursory evidence that this is necessary?"
