Judith delighted at election success!

5.27.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 5th May 2006

Last night Judith Cunningham was re-elected for the Wootton and Stewartby ward of Bedford Borough Council. She beat the Conservative candidate by over 300 votes. Labour were nowhere to be seen, polling just 84 votes in 4th place behind the mayors party. A delighted Judith said " I am so pleased that the people of Wootton and Stewartby have re-elected me. It is a strong mandate of Lib Dem policies, and for all the hard work I have put in for the area. I will continue to give my all for both villages."

Malcolm Whiteman got a strong result in Wilstead and Elstow, coming in a good second place. Elsewhere in Bedford Borough area, Nick Charsley gained Harrold ward from the Tories, and Mahmud Rogers took Goldington Ward from Better Bedford. The Liberal Democrats are now the second largest group on Bedford Borough, and the Better Bedford hopes of serious support are in tatters.
