Cameron Confirms Lib Dems Were Right All Along!

11.45.02pm GMT Fri 16th Dec 2005

Tory Leader David Cameron today confirmed in his address in Hereford that the Lib Dems have been right for years on a number of policy issues. He stated that Lib Dem voters and politicians could find a home where the Environment is key to the agenda, where the War in Iraq is opposed, and where Liberal values will be defended.

He is right, and they already have.

The Liberal Democrats have been consistent on these issues for years, and millions of voters recognised this in the General Election. More are doing so every day, as has been shown this month as Lib Dems claim local council seats from the Tories in traditional Tory heartlands such as Suffolk.

Charles Kennedy said " If David Cameron actually meant what he was saying, perhaps he's the one who should be joining the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives should be looking for a new leader. Is he really saying that his party - which supported the Iraq war - was wrong? He says he wants his party to be greener, yet avoids any specifics. Is he really saying that his party is prepared to sign up to the climate change levy? Is he really saying he will oppose building more civil nuclear power stations? Has he already done a u-turn on his pledge of two weeks ago (in his acceptance speech) to build more roads?"

Mark Chapman, candidate for the Lib Dems in Mid Beds at this years General Election added " Once again we have Blair mark 2 spinning policy and not making it. There is no substance in David Cameron's speech, and this appears to be the style he will be using. Whilst the Tories rely on spin, just like Labour, the Lib Dems will continue to consistently champion the values of Britain with progressive, well laid out policies that will defend the environment, mean an end to involvement in unnecessary wars, and fight for the freedoms that Britain has enjoyed for generations. For all these things, people should join the party that represents all these things - the Liberal Democrats".
